Elli's Diary: October 18, 1992

Three days had passed since I showed the diary to my sister. Until then, she had communicated through drawings. She was slowly starting to return to normal, speaking again. I told myself I would search Dave's room, but after her reaction, a fear made me hold back for these past few days. So I avoided it, but a strange feeling urged me to go back there.

And I felt that feeling again while sitting on my sofa, watching TV. It was almost 11 o'clock when I felt that feeling again; it was as if someone was calling me. I decided that now was the time, so I got up and went towards the room.

I stood in front of the door for a while; even though I was curious, I was still afraid. When I turned the doorknob, I felt an indescribable weight on my shoulders, my breathing becoming muffled, and my eyes ached just from passing through that door. A dark and messy room. The smell of sulfur was simply abominable.

I saw that shadow again, that green glint in its eyes, staring at me like a snake. Sitting on the edge of the bed, it stood up and went to Dave's wardrobe. It rummaged through some things and, from there, took out a diary, precisely the one I was looking for.

It came towards me, paralyzed and trembling. I barely reacted, and it stopped in front of me, took my arm and placed the diary in my hand. Before I could gather enough courage to speak, it turned its back and disappeared, just like a shadow, the green light in its eyes fading.

I stood there for a few minutes, not even believing what had just happened, just staring at the diary. The same strange shadow that, with a touch, calmed my sister while she slept. I wondered if perhaps it knew something. Without thinking much, I ran to the hospital.

When I arrived, I could hardly have hoped that maybe she would finally tell me something, even if it was just a single clue. Upon reaching the hospital room, I was shocked. Dollores had disappeared. Suddenly, without warning, without any sign, I screamed at the doctors asking where my sister was.

A nurse entered, startled, and her jaw dropped when she saw that my sister had disappeared. I ran through all the corridors, opened all the doors, only to find no sign of Dollores.

It couldn't be anyone else, anyone less than that damned shadow; she will pay for these tasteless jokes.
